Letters to the Editor

Monday letters: We want SC roads fixed, period

Our governor and legislators were elected to serve the citizens of South Carolina. So, governor and legislators, listen: The citizens of South Carolina want the roads fixed. We don’t want the governor to cut taxes and offset her cuts by taxing us on other things. We want our governor and legislators to use some common sense.

We don’t want a bunch of items added on to any proposal to add 10 or 12 cents to a gallon of fuel; we want the roads fixed, and the only fair way is to tax the people and businesses who drive vehicles on them. Lawmakers recess in June, and if no action is taken, the roads will continue to deteriorate, and vehicle repair bills will continue to rise.

Pass a simple, straight-forward tax increase on gas and diesel fuel immediately. Make this a No. 1 priority, and take care of all other needs and wants later.

A final word to our governor and lawmakers: You were elected to serve the citizens, not to satisfy your own personal wants and egos.
