Certainly the news articles regarding the James Smith campaign being in turmoil are being written tongue in cheek (“Turbulence in Democrat James Smith’s campaign after another top staffer leaves”).

Smith won the Democratic primary for governor by running on the progressive left’s agenda using an Obama campaigner as manager and a Planned Parenthood spokesperson as a key contributing member of his team. Both are individuals who will not benefit him, and would raise significant questions, in the South Carolina general election.

Smith is simply attempting to tack to the center, and I doubt he will fool S.C. voters with his bait-and-switch tactic.

While I don’t expect conservatives to be fooled by his action, I do expect there will be a great deal of disappointment from his progressive supporters.
