We need wolves, and they need our help

SanLuisObispo

Most Americans are against the inhumane trapping and killing of wolves, yet some members of Congress are threatening to delist wolves and remove the Endangered Species Act protections by tacking unrelated policy riders onto must-pass federal spending bills.

There has never been a more critical time to take a stand for wolves. These animals are apex predators who are cornerstones of our ecosystem, keeping the biodiversity of our environment in balance. They serve to keep prey populations under control, protect crops and forestry operations and attract tourists from all over the nation through eco-tourism initiatives. Without the protection provided by federal law, wolves will be on the brink of extinction.

Please join me in calling Sen. Lindsey Graham at 202-224-5972 and asking him to stand up for wolves during the appropriations process and oppose any other bill that seeks to delist or reduce ESA protections.

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
