Media, Democrats need to stop whining about Trump, suck it up
It seems that some opinion columnists do not like the fact that Donald Trump will tell it like it is about the news media. They have been after him since he had the nerve to win the election. The fact that we, the deplorables, did not even listen to them and vote like they were telling us to galls them even more.
For eight years many of us made our complaints without whining, rioting or intolerance. We did not hide our faces and attack Barack Obama supporters. We did not call for censorship of statements we did not agree with. We did not call for harassment of Obama supporters or Cabinet members.
It is time that Democratic officeholders to either condemn these actions or acknowledge that their silence means agreement. On Election Day, do not vote for any Democrats. If you don’t like their opponents, leave the office blank.
Trump has been called Hitler. Remember that Hitler did not like deplorables — just like many on the left, especially Hillary Clinton.

What would Jesus do? Not this
Imagine if 2,000 years ago, Jesus had proclaimed: “All people darker than me have low intelligence; therefore I do not want immigrant families entering the Promised Land. If immigrants do enter the Promised Land, I want their children taken away. I want all who oppose me imprisoned. I want all of my followers to carry a sword. I want all who love me to declare the words of the scribes fake. I promise not to pay my debts, and by the way, my gospel is being funded by the Romans.”
Just imagine.

Only paper ballots can be trusted
I voted in the Aug. 15 special state Senate primary. Several confused but nice people guided me through the process. I knew that they knew it was rather like a charade: What are these people doing? Three guesses.
There was a time when paper ballots were marked to consummate this process. It was easy, obvious and inexpensive. Many newspapers printed what would appear on the ballot so anyone who could read could be ready and avoid confusion.
After the polls closed, two sets of auditors tallied the results and only stopped when they had agreed on the figures.
Now we have machines, and I have no real faith in this mystical electronic process. None at all.
How can we fix this?

Great job on railroad bridge
Imagine our surprise and pleasure upon driving west on Blossom Street and arriving at the railroad bridge to find it has been painted white and looks beautiful. It was a shock to see it looking so nice.
We would like to think the parties responsible for this transformation can move on to the Gervais Street bridge as it is in terrible need of some TLC. The thousands of cars that cross under it each day would be very appreciative.

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
