South Carolina will miss Cindi Scoppe
South Carolina will surely miss Cindi Scoppe.
RELATED: A sad good-bye. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you
Her truth-telling was essential to keeping the population of this state aware of the issues that are important. She told the truth that most of this electorate do not want to know. So are you catering to the ignorant? Apparently

Why do we have to make this sacrifice?
These days the national news coverage in The State lags behind most sources for those of us devoted to the non-digital newspaper. This means that local reporting and opinion pieces have become the highest-value content for us and the reason that The State has any identity separate from other news outlets.
For this reason, and because Cindi Scoppe’s column provides immensely helpful civics lessons for those of us trying to make sense of state and local government goings-on, I cannot understand the paper’s reasoning in asking her to leave.
It is a disservice to those of us who enjoy being challenged by her thoughtful columns and who believe we are better citizens because of her work.

How could you let such a treasure go?
How could you? In this climate of a relentless, life-threatening war on the press by the president and his minions, and the obvious pervasive corruption in our state government and utilities, you fire the strongest, hardest-working, most articulate analyst we have to fight them.
Surely you could curtail some of the silly features and syndicated stuff we can get anywhere and find the money to keep the unique state treasure that is Cindi Scoppe. Did you learn nothing from your blessedly temporary firing of Robert Ariail?

The State publishes a cross section of the letters we receive from South Carolinians in order to provide a forum for our community and also to allow our community to get a good look at itself, for good or bad. The letters represent the views of the letter writers, not necessarily of The State.
