Monday letters: Help send kids to Salvation Army day camp, summer camp

The Salvation Army of the Midlands is expanding its camp offerings to children in first through fifth grades with a day camp that will be offered for the first time this summer. The camp will be organized into four-week sessions in June and held 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army in Columbia (3024 Farrow Rd.). A total of 25 slots will be available for each session. For more information, please call (803)454-9572.

It costs us $15,000 to provide day camp, and financial support is needed so we can deliver an unforgettable experience to underserved children of our community.

From June 27 through July 2, we will send children who are ages 6-12 to Camp Walter Johnson in Denton, N.C., as we have for years. There, they make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

We also need funding for this; a $200 donation provides the camp experience to one child.

To support sending kids to or day camp and/or Camp Walter Johnson, please mail a check to P.O. Box 2786, Columbia, SC 29202.
