Monday letters: SC roads are deplorable; raise tax to fix them
Every time I cross I-77 on the Farrow Road overpass, I am more than reminded of the condition of our state and federal roads in South Carolina. That overpass (Haley’s Horrible Highway) is so broken up and patched that your vehicle will take a beating unless you wait until the last moment to merge right to get to I-77 and S.C. 277.
If our governor and legislators do not get a highway maintenance bill of (huge) funding passed before they recess, they all should be voted out of office in the next election. Our road system is an absolute disgrace, and it did not happen overnight.
It is disgusting that it has taken this long to come to the forefront. Yes, it will take more than a 12-cent-per-gallon tax increase to be meaningful. We vehicle drivers need to grin and bear the burden.
