Monday letters: Rutherford should focus on black marriage, not Dabo Swinney
I noticed Rep. Todd Rutherford has taken strong exception to Dabo Swinney speaking before an organization that is anti-gay marriage (“Democrat slams Clemson coach,” May 23).
I do not recall ever seeing a front-page article wherein Rep. Rutherford, an African-American, was as passionate about the lack of marriage in the African-American community as he is for the gay community. This lack of marriage is evidenced by a reported 72 percent out-of-wedlock birth rate in the African-American community.
Maybe he should spend more time working for the family well-being in his own racial community, or is this just another scam to garner votes by a Democrat who really cares little for any of his constituents?
