Sunday letters: Graham, other presidential candidates should embrace carbon fee
While I disagree with Sen. Lindsey Graham on some issues, I respect his political courage in calling for Republicans to have a clear policy on the environment. And I am impressed that he publicly states that global warming is real, is at least partly caused by humans and is a threat to our quality of life and national security. I hope the other major presidential candidates will follow his lead, and that the debates will include serious discussion of solutions to the climate change problem.
Some Republican leaders support a carbon fee and dividend. The clearest description of how this would work can be found at citizensclimatelobby.org. All money collected from the fee on fossil fuels would be returned to the citizens. None of it would go toward increasing the size of government.
While this is only one piece of a comprehensive policy, it is something Sen. Graham and others should endorse.
