Tuesday letters: Heed lessons of I-26 inferno
The May 27 tanker accident on Interstate 26 that culminated in a horrific inferno is yet another reminder of how easily much of Columbia can be paralyzed by traffic.
I-26 is an important route, as it provides a quick driving path to residents and other motorists traveling to Charleston and Atlanta and connecting I-20 to numerous destinations.
The congestion caused by a single accident makes one wonder what driving out of the city will be like in case of an evacuation due to a hurricane or other inclement weather.
A city surrounded by one driveway needs to make room for new alternate routes exiting the city and its fast-growing population.
