Thursday letters: Hastert an example of GOP hypocrisy
Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert’s indictment shows the hypocrisy of the GOP and the Christian Coalition. Former Rep. Hastert spoke against gays and same-sex marriage only to get caught in a scandal where he paid millions of dollars to cover up his own sexual misconduct.
What was his stance on poverty? Where was he on homelessness? Why couldn’t the millions of dollars that he spent for hush money be used to feed poor children or to provide shelter for those who have to sleep in the streets or in their vehicles?
He was probably one of the Republicans blaming the poor for their poverty and homelessness.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. talked about the triple evils of militarism, racism and economic exploitation.
It seems that our conservative representatives in both federal and state government live to enforce these triple evils, and as long as this continues, this country will continue in a downward spiral. Love, not hate, will move this country forward.
