Sunday letters: Use SC prisoners to pick up litter
I am getting old, and my hearing is poor, but my eyesight is keen. Our secondary roads are littered, especially close to recycling centers. What makes the litter problem worse is that when the grass is being cut on the shoulder of the road, the machine just cuts up the trash, beer and drink cans, glass bottles, etc. This seriously mars the beauty of our county and state.
We pay taxes for highway maintenance. We pay taxes to keep prisoners warm in winter and cool in summer. We need to use these prisoners in front of grass-cutting machines to collect all the trash so it won’t be cut up, turned into an eyesore and cause road hazards.
I hope that our local and state politicians can work on this problem
