Monday letters: Charleston church massacre: At least lower Confederate flag
It would have been wonderful if Gov. Nikki Haley, recognizing the magnitude of the situation, had immediately called for the Confederate flag to be lowered at the State House without waiting for the General Assembly to act. Given that she did not, the Legislature should have acted immediately upon going into session after the Charleston shootings.
Pictures on the national news of the Confederate flag flying high and proud at the State House suggest that South Carolina is actually celebrating the deaths of nine African-Americans. I would ask “Where is their sense of decency?” But I think I know the answer: They have none.
