Monday letters: Charleston church massacre: Graham downplaying racial element of crime
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s comments on the depraved act committed by Dylann Roof in the storied Mother Emanuel AME Church are at best breathtakingly ignorant and naive and at worst cynical and dismissive of a raw act of violence born out of racial hatred.
If Roof was in fact simply one of those “people out there looking for Christians to kill them,” as the senator said, I wonder why he had to drive more than 120 miles to do it, when there are more than 200 churches among the major Christian denomination in his home community of Columbia.
