Wednesday letters: We need time to heal before we debate Confederate flag
As if the murders of the nine innocent Americans in their Charleston house of worship wasn’t bad enough, people are already pushing their own agendas and drawing attention to themselves, while family, friends and even strangers mourn the loss of these Christian men and women. What makes it even worse is that the news media embellish these actions.
At the right time, the necessary steps will be taken, but I agree with Kathleen Parker in her commentary “A time to grieve”: Give these families some time to recover from shock and to heal.
As our priest said at Sunday Mass, which was not the normal uplifting sermon, “let the Lord calm the waters, heal this state and unite its people.”
Once we realize there is no black and white, only good and evil, perhaps we’ll erase the boundaries of racism and celebrate the rich blessings that we take for granted.
