Monday letters: Fly the real Confederate flag at monument

South Carolinians rallied at the State House to demand the removal of the Confederate flag from the grounds, three days after a white supremacist killed nine people at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.

On “Meet the Press,” Rep. James Clyburn said that the Confederate flag on the state capitol grounds is a Virginia battle flag and not the official flag of the Confederacy. What better flag to fly at a Confederate memorial than the authentic flag of the Confederacy as opposed to the battle flag of another state, which was used by the KKK?

The real flag of the Confederacy bears no resemblance to the battle flag and should satisfy the demands of African-Americans, and flag supporters should find it difficult to oppose the change to the correct flag.
