Wednesday letters: Stop blaming Obama for racism

Let’s see if I understand Eruch Tata’s June 22 letter, “Obama helping fuel shootings”: If President Obama would just tell black boys to pull up their pants, tell black girls to stop having babies, stop giving handouts to black people, stop letting his wife take a vacation or whatever you want to call it, stop Al Sharpton from going wherever he goes, then white boys who are the result of the corrupt seed of racism and hatred would not be killing innocent black people.

If the Confederate flag is your history, your heritage, and you can cling to that, surely I can remember where I came from and how I got here. If you want to remind me of sovereignty, let me remind you that I have overcome subhuman existence in this country.

I love America; there is no other place I’d rather be. But hatred and racism are alive and well here. Stop blaming the slave for being what you made him. Stop blaming the slave for rising to the top. Remember “the first shall be last and the last shall be first” concept.
