Wednesday letters: A small surcharge could fix SC roads
Consideration should be given to assessing a 10-cent surcharge on every transaction of $5 and over to pay for fixing our roads. The surcharge would not be on every item, but on every purchase. So for example if a person buys several items in a store that total $75, he will be charged only a 10-cent surcharge. With the population being about 4.8 million out shopping every day, this would raise a considerable amount of money and would not be a hardship on anybody.
