Thursday letters: We pledge allegiance to only one flag

The controversy about the Confederate flag flying on the South Carolina capitol grounds brings to mind the Pledge of Allegiance — “to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands.”

The Confederate flag stands for no existing republic. Therefore it should be moved to another site to be appropriately honored.
