Thursday letters: Let public vote on fate of Confederate flag
The flag was settled by a compromise by the Legislature in 2000, or so we thought. The tragedy in Charleston touched the hearts of all South Carolinians, and the flag’s fate should be decided by those same state citizens. A knee-jerk reaction by our governor, backroom politics by our legislators or out-of-state agitators should not make the final decision. A statewide referendum is the only fair solution to a reoccurring state issue.
