Thursday letters: Substitute Bonnie Blue for battle flag

I think the Confederate flag should stay at the State House, but am willing to make a peace offering to a state that is seriously divided thanks to that monster who killed those good godly people in Charleston, and our misguided governor who obviously has a political agenda. She has given Mr. Roof the race war he wanted.

If the battle flag has to come down, let’s replace it with the Bonnie Blue flag. The Bonnie Blue was never an official flag of the Confederate States of America, but the soldiers of Gen. Lee’s army loved that flag. It even has a song, and it was carried on the battlefield, but never adopted by the Confederate Congress. It has no battle insignia.

The Bonnie Blue should not offend anyone, and at least we would have a flag for the soldier at the monument.
