Tuesday letters: Race played role in partisan changes in SC

In his June 30 column, “Three S.C. governors who changed the course of history,” Walter Edgar highlights significant race-related decisions of Fritz Hollings, Robert McNair and Nikki Haley. Unfortunately, Dr. Edgar only hints at an important aspect of the decisions by former Gov. Hollings and McNair: The political party of which they were a part is no longer the dominant party in South Carolina.

Maybe Dr. Edgar would enlighten the public as to what part, if any, those decisions and the aftermath played in the decline of the Democratic Party.

Only time and elections will tell if the party Gov. Haley leads will experience a similar fate.
