Wednesday letters: Lawmakers fixate on frivolities

I wondered why our Legislature could not find time to work on fixing our failing roads and education system.

In his recent legislative report, Rep. Chip Huggins gave me the answer, in his list of important legislative accomplishments this year: S.345, requesting DOT to rename the James Metts Landing. H.3284, memorializing the S.C. congressional delegation to support the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund. H.3389 to recognize May 1 as “Cold War Victory Day.” H.3055 requesting DOT to name a portion of U.S. 17 “The Sweetgrass Skyway.” H.3054 to urge federal, state and local governments and neighborhood associations to assist the homeless. And the most important one: H.3387 to declare 2015 the “Year of the Shag Dance.”

I was wrong; these men and women in the Legislature really are working hard to improve our state.
