Sunday letters: Guns a bigger threat than Confederate flag
After watching the enormous coverage about the Confederate battle flag, I was saddened to see the reports of a 14-year-old black boy gunned down in Columbia, and a 7-year-old black boy gunned down in Chicago.
It is especially sad to see the time and energy diverted from the real need: sensible gun control both in South Carolina and in the nation. There is no good reason to own an automatic or semi-automatic weapon, like Dylan Roof used, other than to kill as many people as possible quickly.
I do not understand who was behind the focus on the flag, but the carnage continues.
