Letters to the Editor

Sunday letters: We’re Americans; no hyphens needed

Suppose each of my Asian friends demanded to be identified by their families’ country of origin, regardless of how long they have been American? Imagine the same concerning all of us with ancestors from other countries — some of which no longer exist.

It would get ridiculous.

I support moving the Confederate flag to the museum to help solve this particular problem. I would not support further actions on monuments, markers, road names, etc. We cannot change history, but we surely can make a mess for historians and future generations understanding Southern and American history.

I do not want to stir up troubles with my black friends, but I feel referring to them as African-Americans is silly and juvenile, just as I would referring to my Korean friends as Korean-Americans.

White is white, and black is black.
