Monday letters: Confederate flag is only the first thing
I don’t have a strong opinion whether to keep the Confederate flag flying on State House grounds, but I believe there is far more than meets the eye in the uproar to take it down.
Almost overnight, stores stopped the sale of all Confederate items, NASCAR is eliminating Confederate symbols its races, Bubba Watson is painting over the Confederate flag symbol on the roof of the General Lee, the classic car that was driven in the Dukes of Hazard TV series, and on and on.
The political correctness cancer that is out of control is helping destroy our country. The flag controversy is an opportunity by liberals to try to defang the South, which is the last stronghold of a strong conservative voting block. I am hopeful it backfires and emboldens the conservative base.
I understand that there are honest differences among genuinely concerned people, and they need to be worked out.
But the agitators who have ulterior motives will not be satisfied with the removal of the flag and will continue to cause problems until they get all Confederate symbols and monuments removed, and then they’ll just move on to something else, like they always do. If people would put the time and energy into securing the country from terrorism/ISIS, stopping illegal immigration and so many other serious problems under the current Washington regime, we would be in much better shape as a country.
