Tuesday letters: Benjamin, Devine squandering taxpayers’ money

Is this Monaco or Saudi Arabia? When did my state become so filthy rich that we can spend money like drunken sailors? My apologies to the sailors for dragging them into this.

Are Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine angry with the people of Columbia, and do they have plans to flee the state as soon as their terms are up? If not, they need to.

First they commit the city to a huge loan to pay for a totally unnecessary ballpark. Now they want to build a sports arena too. What are they thinking? Have they given the firefighters an adequate raise? How about increasing what the city pays toward their health insurance? How about their retirement fund?

Spend money on our roads, put more money into our sewers, do something important … not destructive.

I wouldn’t mind if they stepped down now. They’ve done enough damage.
