Wednesday letters: Stop rewarding killers with attention
Congratulations. You have given Dylann Roof exactly what he wanted: his name in the spotlight.
When will the news media learn that they help create these monsters who perpetrate heinous crimes? These sick, evil people want to be “famous.”
You cannot ignore the story, but once they are caught and their identity is known, they should be known only as “perpetrator.” If they are executed, they should be buried in an unmarked grave as was once done. If they are imprisoned, their identities should be obliterated so they cannot become folk heroes to the misguided.
I do not care who Dylann Roof is. It is obvious that he is either sick or evil. It is up to his lawyers and those who judge him to make decisions concerning his actions. When the media report every minute detail, they make it problematic to find jurors who know only the basic details of what occurred in that church in Charleston.
