Friday letters: A few behaved badly at Confederate flag ceremony
It was extremely disappointing that a handful of observers at the lowering of the Confederate battle flag acted as if they were at a pep rally or sporting event. What should have been a dignified, solemn occasion was instead marred by the chanting of “Take it down,” the singing of modified lyrics from the song “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” and even fake military cadences as the SLED honor guard detail performed its duty.
All of this was totally uncalled for and only resulted in embarrassing our state on national television. Shame on those who disrupted this historic event. South Carolina deserves better than their boorish behavior.
