Monday letters: Stop center-of-the-street fundraising
Why does South Carolina allow people to beg for money on the highway right-of-way? Even signs are not supposed to be posted on the right-of-way, and yet people get in the middle of the road, stand on the median and solicit for funds.
What would happen if one person tripped and fell onto the road? Would the organization begging for money be held accountable? Of course not. The driver would be held responsible.
Two Notch Road is heavily traveled, but on a recent Saturday, people were in the middle of the road at several intersections soliciting funds; although these may be worthwhile groups, I will not donate to anyone endangering their lives for a buck. South Carolina needs to stop this practice before someone gets hurt.
