Letters: Baseball, hotel — just imagine what Columbia could do next

Who needs the private sector? The six-acre parcel on Huger Street would be an ideal site for a dirigible hangar. Its proximity to Columbia’s famous hydrogen refueling station would make Columbia a leader in the coming Lighter Than Air Economy.

If City Council acts quickly, it can introduce the world’s first municipal Zeppelin service, giving daily service to the Red Bank, South Congaree and Pelion axis. Surplus sewer and water receipts could be used to jump start this project. City-guaranteed bonds should be issued to assure adequate financial underpinnings.

As a reminder of the city’s glorious history in flight, the new service should be named Air South 2. We can only hope that Bob Coble’s recovery will continue well enough that he can break a bottle of snake oil across the bow of the airship Columbia.
