Monday letters: Citadel Confederates deserve our respect

Why would Citadel alumnus Curtis Minor stop at calling for the removal of “Big Red” and all Confederate flags from the campus (“‘Big Red’ worse than Naval Jack, July 19)? Why not just close The Citadel since the college and its student body served the Confederacy?

Wait … why not close the University of South Carolina, as the entire student body left school to join the Confederacy Army?

Wait …why not also close Clemson University, since Clemson is on the original property of John C. Calhoun, and Thomas Green Clemson was a lieutenant in the Confederate Army?

Stop. Enough is enough. Leave Big Red alone. The cadets who fought, suffered and died under that flag deserve our respect.
