Letters: Election should focus on the less fortunate

A recent issue of Time magazine noted that “to elect a Republican in 2016, the Koch brothers have retooled with more money, better strategy and a new plan for victory.” As we approach the 2016 presidential election, what stands out is the amount of attention the news media devote to the sinful amount of money that already is being raised and spent.

Will the well-being of families, security of working men and women, welfare of children and other human issues find their way into the conversation? Or will vitriolic language and political posturing be the theme of the 2016 political scene?

Those who aspire to lead this nation, along with the electors who will choose our leader, would be well-served with these words from The Book of Common Prayer: “Lord, keep this nation under your care; And guide us in the way of justice and truth. Let your way be known upon earth; Your saving health among all nations. Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten; Nor the hope of the poor be taken away. Create in us clean hearts, O God; And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.”

These words, prayed daily, will lead this nation in a healthy discussion along the path of justice and righteousness in our relationship with each other and with the nations of the world community.
