Monday letters: Devine knew benefits when she ran for Columbia City Council
xCan we trust any elected officials?
Tameika Isaac Devine thinks that Columbia City Council members should now get retirement benefits, insurance for their whole family and then a raise also. She wants the retirement benefits for those who have served at least three terms.
Guess what: She qualifies.
Ms. Devine had to campaign three times for the job, and she was well aware of the salary. I don’t remember any part of her platform being that she would need all these extra perks for working 12 years at a part-time job. Perhaps she is tiring, and now she has decided the city owes her a lot more retroactively and should keep supporting her forever.
Get elected and then give yourself a bonanza. This is even more egregious than members of the Lexington-Richland District 5 school board tripling their pay after the election.
