Monday letters: Clean of Heart ministry needs your prayers

Clean of Heart is a laundry and shower ministry serving the homeless population of downtown Columbia. Since Catholic Charities of the Midlands opened this ministry, 9,000 loads of laundry have been washed for 800 unduplicated clients. Volunteers have logged 7,000 hours of service.

We are grateful to the United Way for collaborating with us and providing us the opportunity to lease their building at 1219 Laurel St. since 2010. But since the city is purchasing this property, we are having to relocate. Our plan right now is to renovate the first floor of Catholic Charities’ main office at 1427 Pickens St. to accommodate the ministry.

Please keep the Clean of Heart ministry in your prayers. It has been a blessing to all involved. We pray our new location can continue providing laundry and shower services to Columbia’s homeless population so they feel empowered and equipped for their life journeys. They do not walk alone.
