Letters: Officials need to investigate SC Farmers Market deal
This State Farmers Market deal is the biggest rip off the state has ever seen. A criminal investigation could make Operation Lost Trust look like nothing, if the attorney general and the Lexington and Richland solicitors would dare take it on.
Lost Trust convicted fewer than a dozen legislators for accepting a few thousand dollars for something they were going to vote for anyway. This deal means buying all the power in the Legislature and most of the power in the state. The market has been a failure. The losers are the taxpayers and all of the people that enjoyed shopping at the old market.
When a state official can contribute to dozens of legislators and then ask for millions in return, something is wrong.
I opposed it from the beginning. Public deals made in the dark are never any good. My countless letters to the Legislature, letters to the editor and even running against Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers didn't wake enough people. Maybe now.
