Letters: Let people decide about changing the State House
Recently it was decided not to build a 15 story structure near the USC Horseshoe (and by the way, our State House). This decision is great for the USC campus and the citizens of South Carolina as this would be yet another monstrosity that overwhelms not only the Horseshoe, but the peoples’ house of South Carolina, our State House.
I believe that any decision to build any building within at least a mile surrounding our State House should be made by all citizens of South Carolina through their legislators, not any local authority. The State House and its presentation and visual protection should be in the hands of all South Carolinians.
As USC did not want to destroy the beauty and visual presentation of its campus, especially the Horseshoe, we South Carolinians should have more say into the beauty and visual presentation of our State House by being able to influence the construction of structures near our State House.
