Monday letters: Columbia should heed Supreme Court on sewer funds
It was good to see that the S.C. Supreme Court agreed that Columbia water funds should be used appropriately. However, the Columbia City Council has already scoffed at existing law and the court, raising water and sewer rates 9.5 percent while the court was considering the case.
With all the Bull Street improvements the mayor is promising, there is no way the city can rely on tax increases alone; it will now need to rely even more on the water and sewer revenue.
It’s reckless to have people in charge of Columbia who are willing to treat the Supreme Court rulings like a bluff.
