Letters: Join pope to protect ‘common home’
We should all rally support for Pope Francis in his call for everyone to acknowledge the role fossil fuels have in disrupting the climate and to transition to renewable forms of energy in order to save our “common home,” our earth.
His efforts come at a crucial time for anyone concerned about the environment. The United Nations Climate Conference will convene Nov. 30 in France with a goal of reaching an international agreement to limit the increase in global warming.
South Carolina has a beautiful coastline that must be protected from coastal flooding. A U.S. Department of Energy-backed research project predicts that the Arctic could lose its summer sea ice cover by next year, which would increase sea level rise and severe weather events.
We must demand that the United States take a leading role in reaching an agreement to cut carbon emissions
