Letters: Bull Street property being squandered
I’ve often thought what a beautiful city park the Bull Street property could be, but knew that would never happen because it probably wouldn’t benefit anyone financially.
Now a baseball stadium is going up, and how it will be paid for is still unclear. A lot of that gorgeous property will be paved over for parking. There will be shops and restaurants and maybe apartments. Ho-hum.
Greenville developer Bob Hughes has suggested the unoriginal name of the Bull Street Commons. Please. How about The Village at Sandhill on Bull Street, since that’s essentially what it will be?
Instead of apartments, the Babcock Building should be a vision center for our myopic city “leaders,” whose own self interests seem to be the order of the day. Every day.
And as long as I’m mentioning irresponsible development: Why don’t we change Columbia’s name to “Gamecockville”?
