Letters: Shadows are a fact of life in cities

So the student housing “monstrosity” that would have cast a shadow over the USC Horseshoe and the State House won’t be built after all.

All the protests that led up to that decision remind me of the time the U.S. Navy was upset about a plan to build a safer bridge into and out of San Francisco: It said the bridge would cast a shadow over the home of an admiral who died shortly after World War II.

The bridge was built anyway, and USC and other critics soon will have to accept that tall buildings will be built here.
