I loved Cindi Scoppe’s column (“A week of great destruction and greater generosity”) and Chris Jordan’s letter (“Together we breathe, we hope, and we will recover”) in the Oct. 11 State.

They reminded me of growing up in Greenville and making frequent trips to the N.C. mountains. I was always delighted as I read aloud the sign as we crossed into our native state, “Welcome to South Carolina. See the best state on the best roads.”

The tragedy in Charleston and our flood have proven we are indeed the best state. Now let’s once again get the best roads.
