Letters: What good does DHEC do for us?

So DHEC was ready and willing to issue a permit to Carolina Water Service. How totally irresponsible is this? This is far from the first time this agency has issued permits or failed to take action in situations where the health and/or quality of life of the citizens of South Carolina was at risk.

What’s the point of having this agency? Is it just a sham that caters to politicians with no regard for its intended mission? Are other agencies functioning is this way? This is a scary situation. I wish there were some way to have a true watchdog group of citizens with the power to make significant changes.
