Letters: SC PSC isn’t scrutinizing SCE&G sufficiently
The Public Service Commission’s approval of SCE&G’s latest rate hike request is outrageous. Customers have faced a cumulative 35 percent increase in our bills since 2008 just to finance the two nuclear power plants in Fairfield County.
Two laws need to be rescinded: 1. The Base Load Review Act, which allows utilities to increase rates for financing and construction without even guaranteeing a project will be completed or that ratepayers will benefit; 2. The appointment of Public Service Commissioners by the Legislature with no vote from the public.
I do not believe the PSC fully considered the public arguments against the project, as evidenced by its unanimous approval, which continues to date as rates continue to skyrocket.
