When we first moved into our Richland County home 18 years ago, we were given a roll-cart for trash and a red bin for recyclables, and like most responsible citizens we tried to separate discards, only to repeatedly observe the trash handlers dump the red containers in with all the other trash — an observation confirmed by many others. So people just abandoned any separation efforts.
About a year ago we were given a light-green roll-cart for recyclables, and we began a renewed effort to comply. A realization has come to us that most of our trash is recyclable, But the recyclables are picked up only every other week, so our new light-green carts overflow most of the time.
Requests for a scheduling adjustment have been for naught. When will the county observe this and make the needed change?
