Letters: Photos of aborted fetuses are obscene

The State

When leaving Soda City Market on a recent Saturday with my family, we passed an event on the State House lawn. I’m still not sure what was going on, because when I saw a large poster with a photo of a bloody, mangled fetus, my main concern was making sure that my young child in the back seat didn’t see this disgusting, horrible image.

I’m outraged that this doesn’t violate some obscenity law. I consider this sort of display an act of violence against my family, particularly my young child. This does nothing to advance discourse on abortion or right-to-life issues. It only creates stronger opposition to the one forcing us to view these images.

If there is anything that can be done to prevent these images from display, please let it happen. Or perhaps someone should stand opposite with an equally large display of people engaged in sex acts or something else to challenge the First Amendment right to be offensive at any cost.

I’d find photos of sex acts less offensive than bloody fetuses.
