Letters: Spurrier did more for USC than anyone in school’s history
I never expected Steve Spurrier to spend 10 1/2 years as USC’s coach. Things happen. In 2030, this will be a blip on the radar. Coach Spurrier did more for the University of South Carolina (not just football) than any human being since the school was founded in 1801.
Thanks to the big donors for supporting this institution’s remarkable growth athletically and academically in the past decade. Much appreciation to the Gamecock Club members who stayed the course. Welcome to the “new Carolina” that knows nothing but a positive attitude when it comes to athletics: national championships/rankings, SEC titles, regional prominence, relativity.
Don’t turn the page just yet: Coach Spurrier and his wife have a lot to live and give in the coming years, and I hope they are around for a long time in the Midlands as ambassadors (and fans) at USC.
