Letters: Devine again focused on herself, not public

People all over America have shown their compassion for the people of Columbia and South Carolina by sending their money to aid the flood victims. Many have filled trucks and vans with relief items for perfect strangers. Many have pitched in and just shown up at strangers’ homes to help them any way they can.

In the midst of this tragedy, Tameika Isaac Devine has shown her true compassion again. Having been rebuffed publicly when she thought she should receive full retirement and insurance benefits after serving 12 years as a part-timer on Columbia City Council, she came back with a request for a raise.

Since Ms. Devine continues to show her compassion for herself, I hope our mayor and City Council will show theirs: Ask for her resignation. She is obviously unhappy with her pay and benefits. She will continue to embarrass the rest of the council and has proven she cannot embarrass herself.
