Letters: ‘Historic’ ceases to have meaning
When I was growing up, the word “historic” was used rarely and mostly for buildings and properties from the 1700s and 1800s. Now that seems to be the favorite word of journalists and sign makers. On a single morning I read that word several times in The State: the historic hangar, the historic flooding and for goodness sake the historic Keenan building, and those are just the ones I recall.
It seems that every small town and city is historic this or historic that. Let’s find another adjective; this one is worn out and has little meaning any more.
