Letters: Suspend students who won’t behave

jblake@thestate.com

We must remember discipline starts at home. An honest, hard-working law officer lost his job and possibly career because of an overreaction to an apparent trouble maker. This will only make it tougher for other school resource officers to do their jobs, because other students will now stand up to them.

Where do we draw the line on what can be done without someone screaming “abuse”?

If I were Sheriff Leon Lott, I would remove all officers from the schools.

I think we need school resource officers, but I call on all school districts to adopt a new rule: If it becomes necessary to call in a resource officer to deal with a student, the student should get an automatic two-week suspension. Maybe students would listen better then.
